Matteo Guendouzi sends Mesut Ozil shots at Mikel Arteta after sealing Arsenal loan exit

Matteo Guendouzi has sent Mikel Arteta a pointed Mesut Ozil message following his Arsenal departure. The French midfielder completed a move away from the Gunners on deadline day, after falling completely out of favour at the Emirates.

The 21-year-old joined Hertha Berlin on a season-long loan deal on deadline day, with his future under Arteta looking decidedly bleak.

Guendouzi hadn’t featured for Arsenal since he was involved in an ugly fracas with Neal Maupay during the defeat to Brighton in June.

A number of clubs were interested in signing the midfielder, as Arteta looked to clear the decks for his own transfer plans.

Roma, Valencia and Villarreal had all been linked with a move, with Arsenal also offering him to Lyon as part of a potential deal for Houssem Aouar.

That was rejected out of hand, but he did manage to complete a move away from the Premier League through Hertha.

Ahead of his move to the Bundesliga side, fellow Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil sent a message to Gunedouzi.

He posted: “Mi Bebee, all the best for you in Germany. Show them that you’re a great football player. Will miss you here bro.”

Ozil himself hasn’t played since March, with Arsenal’s desperate attempts to sell him failing.

Arteta has no plans to use the German international, but his hefty wage, means he is likely to see out the final 12 months of his contract.

But Gunedouzi believes he deserves to be in the starting XI, claiming he is one of the best in the world in his position.

Replying to his former Arsenal teammate, Guendouzi said: “Mi bebee! Thanks for you message and everything you did for me. I learned a lot with you for me you are one of the best 10 in the world and London for sure! Miss you too bro!”

Guendouzi was one of two midfielders to leave the Emirates on deadline day, joining Lucas Torreira who moved to Atletico Madrid, also on loan.

That made room for the arrival of Thomas Partey, the Ghana international’s signature was confirmed after the window closed, with Arsenal sealing a last minute deal.

After being linked with for much of the window, Arsenal finally triggered his £45m release clause, before completing a medical and agreeing to personal terms.

“We have been watching Thomas for a while, so we’re now delighted to add such a high quality player to our squad,” Arteta told the club’s official site. “He is a dynamic midfielder with great energy.

“He brings a lot of experience from a top club that has competed at the highest level in La Liga and the Champions League for several years.

“We’re very impressed with his attitude and his approach to the game. He’s an intelligent footballer and we’re looking forward to him integrating into our system and contributing to the progress we’re building at the moment at the club.”
