Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield is in doubt – despite Iron Mike “confirming” the bout.
The youngest ever heavyweight champion announced the time and date for a first fight between the pair since 1997 last week.
Speaking on Instagram Live earlier this week, the 54-year-old said: “I just want everybody to know, the fight is on with me and Holyfield.
“Holyfield’s a humble man, I know that. And he’s a man of God, but I’m God’s man.
“And, listen, I’m going to be successful on May 29.”
But representatives for Tyson told TMZ that the boxer “misspoke”, with the two parties still far apart in negotiations.
Talks have been going on between the pair for several weeks amid speculation of a £25m agreement.
And Holyfield’s manager confirmed earlier this month that the negations had started to “fall apart”.
Kris Lawrence told TMZ: “We were negotiating in good faith all along and it appears we just ended up wasting our time.”
And it sparked a brutal reaction on Instagram from the 58-year-old, who has been training hard to get in shape.
Accompanying a snap of himself after a workout in the ring, Holyfield wrote: “Looks like my dance partner Mike Tyson is a no show for the last dance.
“You know where I’m at if you change your mind.”
A fight between Tyson and Holyfield would reignite a rivalry that stunned the boxing world nearly 25 years ago.
With Iron Mike defending his WBA heavyweight title, the pair met in Las Vegas on November 9, 1996.
