Paul Mitchell is yet to be officially confirmed as Manchester United’s new sporting director but reports suggest he is already hard at work for the Old Trafford club.
It has been indicated that Mitchell will be brought in to oversee footballing matters when Sir Jim Ratcliffe completes his purchase of a 25 per cent stake in the club.
The 42-year-old has previously held senior roles at Southampton and Tottenham, helping to sign the likes of Sadio Mane and Son Heung-min.
Mitchell has been out of work since leaving Monaco in the summer having spent three years at the Ligue 1 club.
He could now be the man tasked with helping Erik ten Hag turn around United’s underwhelming start to the current season, and reports in Spain indicate he is already keeping an eye on one United player.

Mundo Deportivo claim that Mitchell was in attendance to watch Mason Greenwood turn out for Getafe in a recent La Liga fixture.
Greenwood was sent on loan to Getafe in the summer after an internal review at United determined he would not be re-integrated into Ten Hag’s squad following the Crown Prosecution Service’s decision to drop charges against him that included attempted rape.
Greenwood denied all allegations and the CPS dropped all charges against him in February.
A United spokesperson said: ‘All those involved, including Mason, recognise the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United. It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome.’

Mail Sport has reported that Greenwood will never play for United again.
The United academy graduate arrived in Spain to great fanfare, and it has since been suggested that he could make his switch to Getafe permanent.
However, Mundo Deportivo say that Mitchell was ‘impressed’ by what he saw from the 22-year-old.
With Mitchell’s appointment yet to be confirmed, it is unclear at this stage if the reported scouting misson will have any impact on United’s stance on Greenwood.
