Pat Nevin breaks his silence to thank well-wishers after Chelsea legend was ditched from Blues media team ‘for no reason’… after sharing that he felt ‘no bad feelings’ towards the club in the wake of his sacking
- Nevin instead offered comfort to those who lost jobs in difficult circumstances
- Former Scotland international wrote roughly 750 articles in his 13 years at club

Chelsea icon Pat Nevin has shared a thoughtful response with his supporters three days after news broke that he was let go from his role as part of the Blues’ media team without being given reason.
Nevin is thought to have received a message from higher-ups at the club, communicating that his services would no longer be needed, though he has heard nothing from Todd Boehly, chief executive Chirs Jurasek or Clearlake Capital.
The note is not believed to have included a reason why the former winger – who made 242 appearances in Chelsea blue – would not be continuing at Stamford Bridge.
In addition to writing a regular column for the matchday programme, Nevin also shared analysis online, and worked as a co-commentator for club radio.
But the Scotland international was sensitive and unruffled as he broke his silence for the first time via social media, first revealing his gratitude at those who had reached out to him in the wake of the news.

The Scotland international urged his followers to think of others as he is ‘happy’ and ‘busy’

‘Such kind sentiments re my CFC departure. Thank you all,’ the 60-year-old posted on X (formerly Twitter). ‘So kind of everyone, but honestly don’t stress-others losing their jobs and now in dire financials circs are more worthy of consideration.
‘I’m happy, busy, (promoting my recent book for Xmas and BBC work). Also RIP Shane M. (MacGowan, of the Pogues)’.
Nevin also works for the corporation for both 5Live and BBC Sport’s website, and published a second memoir – ‘Football and How to Survive It’ – in 2023.
The former player cut a similarly philosophical note when initially discussing the cutting of ties between himself and his club earlier this week, saying that he was never an ‘angry’ person, and the situation wouldn’t make him into one.
‘There are no bad feelings, you just shrug your shoulders and move on,’ said Nevin about the way in which he was reported to have found out about the change of his role.
‘A few people have told me I should be angry about the way I found out, but that’s not me. I’ve never really been like that.
‘I’ve got no high expectations just because I played for the club or anything like that. You do a job and then you don’t.’
The former winger made 242 appearances in Chelsea blue during his five-year stint in London
In 13 years of work it is estimated that the former winger had written roughly 750 articles for the club, in addition to his regular work for the BBC.
Yet it would appear that Nevin’s future at the club is not entirely written off, with reports stating that the decision was taken by a figure no longer at the club, with a view to potentially reviewing it in future.
The club are yet to comment on his media role.
Nevin scored 36 league goals during his five-year stint in west London, before moving to Everton, Tranmere Rovers, Kilmarnock, and Motherwell, and retiring in 2000.
