Pep Guardiola insists he’s not worried that Man City’s quadruple hopes came to an end with their Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle.
Guardiola’s City side crashed out at the third-round stage with a 1-0 defeat at St James’ Park following a 53rd minute Aleksander Isak strike.
Questions of a quadruple inevitably followed their historic Treble-winning success last season.
But City at best will be hoping to again win the Treble consisting of the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.
Asked if he was disappointed his side could no longer win the quadruple, Guardiola said: ‘You think the target was to win the quadruple? Honestly, it’s not.

‘We competed really well and we are more than satisfied to win the treble. Our expectations are high, but not high enough to not be satisfied with that.’
Following Newcastle’s goal, tempers began to flare, with Guardiola receiving a yellow card for remonstrating with fourth official Chris Kavanagh.
After the final whistle, Guardiola again confronted Kavanagh to express his frustration, which was revealed to be over a lack of bookings given to Newcastle.
In response to his yellow card, Guardiola said: ‘I don’t know how many fouls they did, how many fouls we had and the number of yellow cards.
‘But it is what it is, sometimes the emotions are there. Respect for the referees and their job. A well-deserved yellow card.’
Guardiola said he is ‘satisified’ with the Treble that his side were able to deliver last season
Guardiola also opted not to bring on Erling Haaland as time ran down at St James’ Park.
Explaining the decision when asked if he considered bringing him on, he said: ‘No. I thought Kyle (Walker had played) a lot of minutes, Erling a lot of minutes. We have a lot of games ahead of us.
‘Maybe the last 10-15 minutes, but I decided not to do it.’
