Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s change of position causing Arsenal problems

Arsenal legend David Seaman believes Mikel Arteta should put Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang centrally to get the best out of the striker.

Aubameyang has found the net just twice in the Premier League this season, being played primarily on the left.

That’s in comparison to 22 league games last campaign, with Aubameyang having more opportunities in a central role.

Arteta believes the former Borussia Dortmund star is at his best when playing on a flank, saying: "We have scored goals a lot with Auba in his natural position on the left, so we’ll change that depending on the opponents and the games."

Though Gunners icon Seaman believes Arteta would see a change of fortunes were he to move Aubameyang central.

“Aubameyang is struggling to score because he is out of the penalty area too much at the moment,” Seaman told The Target Men Podcast, brought to you by Football Index.

“It’s clear he’s trying to get involved in linking play out on the wings, but as a striker he needs to be in the box getting on the end of crosses.

“When Lacazette came on against Wolves and the two of them were up front, Arsenal caused a lot more problems and that’s simply because they had a lot more bodies in the box.

“We know what he can do, we’ve seen what he can do, it’s just a case of getting him in the right positions and giving him the service.

“He’s hardly touching the ball, if I’m honest.”
