PSG confirm Tuchel sacking with Pochettino lined up as replacement

Paris Saint Germain have confirmed they have sacked Thomas Tuchel – with Mauricio Pochettino the hot favourite to replace him.

It is believed the French boss was actually relieved of his duties almost a week ago, but it was only officially announced by the club on Tuesday morning.

A statement from PSG president Nassel Al-Khelaifi read: "I would like to thank Thomas Tuchel and his staff for everything they have given to the Club.

"Thomas has put a lot of energy and passion into his work, and of course we will remember the good times we shared together. I wish him the best for his future."

Tuchel was in charge for two-and-a-half seasons and won two Ligue 1 titles and a Coup de France, as well as guiding his side to the Champions League final last season before they were beaten by Bayern Munich.

Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is the odds on favourite to replace Tuchel, and announcement of his appointment is expected imminently.

Pochettino has been without a club since being sacked by Spurs in November last year.

He has been strongly linked with the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid, but as of yet nothing has materialised.

However, he spent three seasons at PSG as a player between 2000-03, and would no doubt relish a return to management at his old side.

PSG currently sit in third place in Ligue 1 but are only a point behind leaders Lyon and second-placed Lille.

They also secured qualification for the last-16 of the Champions League, where they will face Barcelona.
