Sheffield Wednesday have announced the appointment of Danny Rohl as the club’s new manager.

The Owls currently sit bottom of the Sky Bet Championship, and sacked Xisco Munoz last week following a dismal start to the season.

The German formerly worked as an assistant coach at Bayern Munich under Hansi Flick and Ralph Hasenhuttl at RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, and his move to Hillsborough will mark the first time he has held a head coach role.

Rohl has Premier League experience too, having worked under Hasenhuttl at Southampton too.

The 34-year-old is the Owls’ 11th permanent manager in the last 12 years, and he will start with the club with immediate effect, with his first match from the dugout against Watford.

Departing head coach served less than four months in the role following the sacking of Darren Moore in July

Wednesday sacked Xisco after less than four months in charge at pace with a curt statement released as the news broke.

Stating that his departure would be an immediate one, it went on to add: ‘The Owls would like to thank Xisco and his staff for their services and wish them well for the future.

‘The process to appoint a new manager is now underway and we will make no further comment at this time.’

Before Xisco, Wednesday were helmed by Darren Moore, who had previously seen the team promoted to the Championship via the League One play-offs in 2021.
