Sheffield Wednesday are preparing to appoint former Bayern Munich coach Danny Rohl as their next manager in a bid to save them from relegation, according to reports.

The Owls were promoted to the Championship in dramatic scenes during the League One playoff final last season but have struggled in the second-flight, so far being the only team without a league win.

Xisco Munoz was named as Darren Moore’s successor in the summer but was sacked following a barren run of form that leaves the club bottom of the Championship.

Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri is now set to appoint Rohl to the position of first-team head coach, as reported by the Sun.

The 34-year-old was previously interviewed by the club during the summer as they looked at potential candidates but was snubbed.

However, Rohl has remained interested in the role and is now back in talks with the Owls over becoming their new manager as he strives for a first head coach role.

He has a wealth of experience having previously worked in assistant positions at RB Leipzig, Southampton, Bayern Munich and most recently with the German national team.

Rohl has been guided throughout his coaching career by a wealth of successful managers such as Ralph Hasenhuttl and Champions League winning coach Hansi Flick.

Wednesday owner Chansiri was impressed by Rohl during talks over taking charge given his background knowledge and impressive coaching CV that has seen him develop at some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Rohl has been out of work since Flick was sacked as German head coach in September following a disastrous tenure in charge of the national team.

The Zwickau-born coach previously graduated with a sports science degree from the University of Leipzig and now looks set to take charge at Hillsborough.

He will have time to settle in during the international break before Sheffield Wednesday return to action against Watford on Saturday, October 21.
