It’s not the first time that Aaron Ramsey has been touted as a potential target for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool. Back in 2018, with the Welshman in the final year of his Arsenal contract, the Reds were credited with an interest.

That interest failed to materialise, with the midfielder instead joining Juventus in the summer of 2019.

However, it hasn’t all gone to plan for Ramsey and less than two years later, reports from Italy claim he could seal a Premier League return.

Football Italia suggest that Juventus are willing to listen to offers for the player, after two injury-disrupted seasons in Turin.

The report adds that the Premier League is his most likely destination, along with a number of his teammates at the Allianz Stadium.

Calciomercato then suggested that Liverpool, along with Champions League chasing West Ham were eyeing up a potential move.

Klopp will be in the market for a central midfielder at the end of the current campaign, with Gini Wijnaldum set to depart on a free transfer.

The latest from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano is that if there is interest from Anfield, it is still at a very early stage.

“There’s nothing between Liverpool and Aaron Ramsey as of today, despite rumours,” he posted on social media.

“Former Arsenal midfielder could leave Juventus in the summer – but there are no negotiations or contacts with #LFC board at the moment.

However, should Klopp sanction a move for the 30-year-old, it would mark a stark change from his previous transfer stance.

Back before he joined Juventus, it was claimed that Ramsey didn’t fit the profile of a Liverpool signing, due to both his age and injury record.

Of course, two years older and coming off fresh fitness concerns, Klopp may be even more deterred about pushing for a move.

But the former Gunners star does come with glowing recommendations. Speaking in 2018, arguably the club’s greatest ever midfielder, Steven Gerrard, cited Ramsey as the best in his position in the top-flight.

He said: “For me, when he’s in form, he’s the best attacking midfielder in the Premier League.

Gerrard believes that his best position is as a forward-thinking midfield player, with his ability to chip in with goals and assist an obvious plus point.

Similarly, Jamie Carragher believes his ‘unique’ quality in the final third, makes him a valuable asset.

“Yes [I’m a fan], very few players can get the goals from midfield that he can,” Carragher said last year. “He just struggles with injury.”

With Juventus desperate to bring in transfer fees this summer, Ramsey could be available at a price more palatable for the FSG ownership.

While there are definite reservations regarding the player, as Gerrard rightly stated, on his day, he is one of the best in the division.
