Timo Werner has Liverpool ‘pre-agreement’ as Jurgen Klopp plots transfer

Timo Werner has the outline of an agreement in place to join Liverpool, it has been claimed.

The Germany international is hot property after firing 25 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions for RB Leipzig this campaign.

He is attracting interest from Chelsea and Real Madrid but a move to Anfield is reportedly on the cards.

According to El Desmarque, Werner has a ‘pre-agreement’ with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

It is claimed the 23-year-old is set to join at the end of the season before Euro 2020 to ensure his price does not skyrocket during the tournament.

He will take up a chunk of a €200m (£170m) war chest handed to Klopp to bolster his squad over the summer, the Spanish publication claims.

Werner signed a contract extension with Leipzig last summer which reportedly contains a €60m (£51m) release clause.

El Desmarque claim Liverpool’s advances are a blow to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who hoped to add Werner to Zinedine Zidane’s first-team squad.

Los Blancos are on the hunt for a new striker amid Luka Jovic’s struggles at the Bernabeu.

Jovic was a big-money arrival in the Spanish capital from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer but has managed just one goal for the club.

Werner would offer an additional goal threat to Liverpool plus an ability to play across the front line.

The former Stuttgart hotshot has admitted he is open to a switch to England.

“The Premier League is certainly the most interesting league, you have to say,” he said.

“There is a certain flair to watching the English league and playing there.”

Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann has previously stated that he would not stand in any player's way if they wanted to leave for a bigger club.

“I’ve already advised many players to take off their wedding ring with their current club to move somewhere else,” he said.

“I’d do the same with Timo Werner if he were developing faster than the team at RB Leipzig.”
