Tottenham fans fuming as Dejan Kulusevski ‘admits’ he wants to play for Arsenal

Tottenham fans are up in arms after footage emerged of Dejan Kulusevski appearing to suggest he wants to move to arch-rivals Arsenal at some point during his career.

The 22-year-old joined Tottenham from Juventus on an initial 18-month loan in January, but is expected to sign permanently in the coming months, though with this damning video doing the rounds on social media, club officials might think twice about keeping him.

In a post on TikTok, a fan unearthed audio of a 19-year-old Kulusevski admitting Arsenal was his "favourite team" and that he loved "everything about the club" including its stadium, players and the team's playing style.

But what's wrong with that, you ask? Kulusevski was playing for Atalanta at the time and was a good two-and-a-half years away from having any sort of public loyalty to Tottenham. Well … tin foil hats the ready.

In a second clip, taken from an interview just a few weeks ago, the forward is asked: "Is there a team you want to play for before you retire?"

Kulusevski replies: "There's one team I've always wanted to play for, and I think I will play there one day. But I don't want to say what team it is because it's sensitive stuff. But people close to me know."

Now, there's no way of knowing if Kulusevski was actually talking about Arsenal or not, but the fact that he'd be so cagey about the identity of the mystery team means there's a pretty good chance he was. After all, could he grown up idolising fellow industrious Swedish wide-man, and Arsenal icon, Freddie Ljungberg? Why the hell not?

Needless to say, Tottenham fans were none too impressed on social media.

"Being brutally honest, it has actually pissed me off that Kulusevski has said this publicly," one fan tweeted. "Saying you liked Arsenal as a kid or whatever, fair enough – literally stating that you will one day play for them, when you play for Spurs? I'm not fond of that."

Another wrote: "Saying you want to play for another club when you’ve just signed for one is a c*** move," while a third commented: "Wow. Looks like Richarlison is my new favourite right winger."

Kulusevski has made a bright start to his Tottenham career, scoring five goals in 20 matches as Antonio Conte's side nipped in ahead of Arsenal to grab the final Champions League space.

He's expected to compete with Richarlison and Lucas Moura for a place on the right side of Tottenham's attack next season, but whether fans will be rooting for him after this is anyone's guess.
