Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou could build on his strong African contingent with two more acquisitions over the coming transfer windows. Current Spurs stars Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr have made it onto the African Player of the Year shortlist, and others who made the cut are rumoured to be on the Londoners’ radar.
Bissouma and Sarr form the base of Postecoglou’s exciting midfield, helping Spurs to lead the Premier League 10 games into the former Celtic manager’s tenure. The duo’s breakthrough has been celebrated by supporters after ex-Tottenham boss Antonio Conte restricted their minutes last term.
At 27 years old and 21 years old respectively, Postecoglou should have a dependable pairing to call upon for years to come. Their excellent form at club level, as well as their exploits internationally with Mali and Senegal, have seen them make it onto the 30-man shortlist for African Player of the Year.
And Spurs may cast their eye over a selection of the other 28 stars for inspiration ahead of the January transfer window.
Don’t miss… Worried Man Utd stars ‘point finger’ at Ten Hag in another dressing room leak
Serhou Guirassy is reportedly a target for the Lilywhites, and indeed a host of other clubs across Europe after his blistering start to the campaign with Stuttgart.
A dizzying haul of 14 goals in just eight Bundesliga matches would put him on the radar regardless of his price tag, but a release clause understood to be in the region of just £17.4million makes him a bargain for any club seeking firepower.

Spurs have plenty of that, with Son Heung-min racking up goals at this early stage of the campaign, but an injury to the South Korean would leave Postecoglou short. Guirassy, 27, was born in France but plays his international football with Guinea.
Also on the African Player of the Year shortlist is Edmond Tapsoba. Tottenham were reported to be pushing for the Bayer Leverkusen star during the summer, and a stellar start to the season under manager Xabi Alonso will have done his chances of getting a big-money move no harm.
Tapsoba has started every single one of Leverkusen’s Bundesliga games this season, with their near-flawless record of 25 points from a possible 27 leaving them top of the table.
Even perennial champions Bayern Munich trail Alonso’s side, with Tapsoba helping them to concede at a rate of fewer than one goal per game. Spurs have held a long-standing interest in the Burkina Faso international, 24, and their high-flying Premier League status could give Postecoglou enough pulling power to get the job done in January.
