An American Wrexham supporter was left crying tears of joy after securing a ticket to a match – only to watch her beloved side get thrashed 5-0.
The Dragons’ global fanbase has exploded since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took charge of the club in 2021. Further interest was created by the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary on Disney+.
As a result, a growing number of Americans are following Wrexham’s fortunes, not just from afar but by attending matches too. Getting hold of a ticket is often easier said than done. Therefore, one US-based supporter was left completely overwhelmed when she secured a seat for Saturday’s League Two clash at Stockport County.

With a picture of her looking overcome with emotional as she clutched her ticket, Burkey Shark, from Washington state on the West Coast, posted on X (formerly Twitter): “From the moment I watched @WrexhamFX. I feel in love with the team and town. Visiting has only enhanced that. Thanks to the insane kindness of @r77ulr. I’ll be at the game today, cheering on the team in person. Words cannot express my extreme thanks!”

Having made a strong start following their dramatic return to the Football League, she would have been confident of a good result at Edgeley Park. However, those hopes were blown apart as Stockport romped to a 5-0 victory.
After the match, she posted: “Not the result we wanted, but I got to see the team play and feel the atmosphere of UK football. It’s so different than back home, so I’m glad for the experience. I’m thankful for my time in town and know I’ll be back for another game soon enough!”
Meanwhile, fans were left amazed at how a fan from the US could have become so besotted with a lower league club. One said: “Americans crying with happiness because they get to go to Stockport is actually mental.”
Another posted: “Seriously though, imagine travelling all the way from Washington to watch them lose 5-0. Bless her.”
