Everton are facing the biggest Premier League points deduction in history after the club allegedly broke Financial Fair Play rules when they reported losses of almost £372million over a three-year period.
An independent commission is currently reviewing their case, and if they are found guilty they could be hit with a fine, transfer embargo or points deduction up to 12.
While the Premier League are focusing on Everton – Manchester City currently face 115 charges but have received no punishment.
Taking a look at your comments, it’s clear to see many feel that Everton are being harshly targeted while clubs such as City and Chelsea have invested large sums of money into players.
‘The PL will be extremely weak if they do not give Man City a very heavy fine. Pick on the smaller teams it looks like,’ one reader wrote.

‘The premier league are desperate to make an example of someone, and Everton are prime candidates,’ a second added.
A third also said: ‘Other teams got away with fines in the past why should they deduct points from Everton? Not an Everton fan but that is very unfair especially when City have all these charges against them and nothing has been done about it!’
Another added: ‘Remind me again what FFP stands for ? It’s surely more to do with how many loopholes you can take advantage of, just look at the other cubs spend, look at the charges stacked up against other clubs yet it’s Everton that the premier league are going for. What a joke.’
Discussing Everton’s hopes for the rest of the season, one reader seems to think it would not be the end of the world for the Toffees.
They said: ‘Huge deduction 12 points? Take away the 7 they already have and that means -5 points which is less than a 2 game win, given the 4 clubs below them have not yet got 6 points it is not that big a penalty.’
Another agreed, saying: ‘Four wins out of a 38 game season could be easily overcome to a team who have supposedly overspent by 250m in recent acquisitions.’

Everton have strongly denied any wrongdoing over the alleged breaches and believe they will be cleared as they claim they received allowances from the Premier League due to the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, Leeds, Leicester and Burnley have all written to Everton’s future owners 777 Partners warning them that they will sue the club for £300m if the Toffees are found guilty of breaching financial rules to avoid getting relegated over the past two seasons.
American investment company 777 Partners are still waiting for Premier League approval to replace current owner Farhad Moshiri at the helm at Goodison Park.
Everton are facing legal action for a separate matter as well, with Mail Sport revealing last week that they have been reported to the Premier League for allegedly failing to pay an agent fee.
The global agency has sent multiple legal letters to the club over an unpaid invoice worth several hundred thousand pounds.
