Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted to proposing to his long-time partner only to be knocked back – and the football legend vows to never ask her again.
The Swedish superstar made the admission during an interview with Piers Morgan where the pair touched on a number of topics, including his relationship with Helena Seger, the mother of his two children. The couple have been together for over 20 years but have never married which led Morgan to ask the former footballer: "You don't actually have a wife, do you Zlatan?”
Ibrahimovic jokingly responded: "No, because I don't want to lose 50%. No, I am joking.” Morgan then asked why he's never proposed to Seger – who is a model and a businesswoman. He admitted that he did in fact offer his hand in marriage. He told the journalist: "This was a couple of years ago, because I said after 20 years, you deserve to be married with me.

However, she knocked back his proposal and while many may have thought it would have shown a chink in Ibrahimovic's confidence, he said her refusal made him "gain more respect" for his partner. "I think it's cool because if you do that, you gain more respect from me, because I don't have to win all the time," he added. When asked whether he'll try his luck again, the Swede was stern in his answer, saying that "she had one chance".
He continued: "She will not get a second chance. But she has two boys from me, so that's even bigger than being married". The former Manchester United striker told Morgan what Seger told him after rejecting his proposal as he said: "She was like, ‘Listen, I don't need to marry you to show that I am together with you and we have two boys’.

And to be honest, I don't need a piece of paper to show that she is mine. She is mine whatever paper we have among us." Seger, who is 11 years older than Ibrahimovic, previously opened up on her reasons why she never got married as she admitted: "Getting married could disturb my sense of independence.
"I don't want to be labelled simply as the wife of a player, or the winner of a beauty contest. I think people don't know how much I have studied, worked and fought." The 42-year-old called time on his legendary football career earlier this year after 24 years in the sport where he established his legacy as one of the greatest strikers of his generation.
