Simona Halep will look to reach the second Wimbledon final of her career on Thursday when she takes on Elena Rybakina in her final four clash. The Romanian stunned Serena Williams back in 2019 to win the coveted trophy for the first time, and is now the favourite to do so again this year following a string of impressive performances in the tournament so far.

Halep is yet to drop a set so far and comfortably saw off Amanda Anisimova 6-2, 6-4 in her quarter-final. And speaking on court afterwards she said: “It’s great to be back in the semi-finals. I’m very emotional right now. It means a lot. I played a tough opponent today – she could crunch the ball in the end.

“Definitely this is my best tennis. I struggled a lot last year and now I am just trying to build my confidence back, tennis is here, so I just have to believe. I started to do that and it feels good.”

Russian-Kazakhstani Rybakina, meanwhile, is playing in her first Major semi-final, and may relish her role as heavy underdog as she looks to spring an upset.

If there are any signs of nerves from Rybakina, she’s not showing it.

She holds to love in the first game of her first ever Wimbledon semi-final to show Halep she means business.

The dream start for the underdog.

Here come the players

Halep and Rybakina walk out to big cheers.

The Romanian, of course, has done this all before, whereas this is all new for the Kazakhstani.

Will that variety in experience make all the difference?
