Jake Paul warned over transition from boxing to UFC – but fighters would ‘watch’

Jake Paul has been warned by rising UFC star Sean O’Malley about transitioning to the Octagon – but admitted he would watch a contest involving the controversial YouTuber.

Paul has become an incredibly divisive figure within the fighting community, and the controversial content creator currently possesses a perfect 5-0 record in professional boxing.

Last week, Paul shared footage of him performing leg kicks and he even tagged several MMA promotions to the video.

Paul has flirted with a contest in UFC, calling out American welterweight Jorge Masvidal for a UFC clash – but included stipulations he knew would never be agreed.

Bantamweight fighter O’Malley believes that while Paul’s rise in boxing has been impressive, MMA is a different beast.

“It takes so long. It’s going to take a longer time to do what he did in boxing in MMA,” O’Malley said on his Sugar Show podcast.

“Boxing, he did it fast, which is impressive. He knocked out Tyron Woodley.

“I mean, that’s crazy. Like, that’s pretty crazy, but to go into MMA and have success, it’s a different level.

“There’s just too many things that you have to get good at.”

While he is sceptical of Paul’s ability to transition to MMA, the 27-year-old refused to rule out the prospect.

He believes Paul has the necessary work ethic to potentially pull off the move if the YouTuber truly wants to enter the Octagon.

“He’s got the drive, and. he’s got the heart, the work ethic. That’s proven,” O’Malley added. “I’d watch.”

The 24-year-old is embroiled in a feud with UFC president Dana White over fighter pay – and the two recently challenged one another to adhere to drug testing, with White dubious of Paul’s boxing success.

‘The Problem Child’ has defeated fellow content creator ‘AnEsonGib’, ex-NBA star Nate Robinson, retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren and former UFC champion Tyron Woodley on two occasions.

Paul won their first bout on points but he sensationally knocked out Woodley on December 18 at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.

He stopped the 39-year-old with a powerful one-punch knockout in the sixth round of their rematch.

Paul, who will likely take a break from boxing after his win over Woodley, reportedly wants his next opponent to have had prior professional boxing experience.
