Jon Jones blasts Conor McGregor over GOAT rankings after PED swipe

Jon Jones mocked Conor McGregor for putting himself at No.2 in the MMA GOAT rankings.

The UFC light heavyweight champion is regarded by many as a strong contender in the greatest of all time debate, but McGregor put Jones at No.4 in his list – with Anderson Silva top and Georges St-Pierre in third.

McGregor took a swipe at Jones and Silva for repeated doping violations and declared he would be the undisputed No.1 GOAT by the time he retired.

Jones responded to McGregor’s comments, saying: ‘I’m not going to debate on who is the GOAT, I’ll let the fans do that for me.’

McGregor’s Twitter thread sparked a big debate among MMA fans, and some angry responses from fighters, and Jones couldn’t help but aim a jab at the two-weight champion.

‘GOAT, where you at?’ Jones posted on Twitter, with a list of the fighters who have the most wins in UFC title fights.

McGregor compiled his list based on several factors, including the type and excitement of finishes.

‘The array of finishes, across 2 divisions, with champion status in 1, Anderson Silva is No.1 MMA GOAT,’ McGregor said.

‘My array of finishes, across 3 divisions, with champion status in 2, I’m No.2. If not tied 1. However still active, No.1 is fully secured by career end. And easily.

‘GSP is in at three. Much less array of finishes but champion status in two. He is far behind though. Reasons [are] left 170 after much damage taken and questionable decision.

‘Never re-engaged 170lb successors. Bottled Anderson fight. Only moved when one eyed fighter presented. Played safe.

‘Jon is four. Maybe tied third. More array of finishes than three and still active, but champion status in just one [division].

‘Reasons [are] multiple lacklustre decision performances and questionable decision win. Attempting to safe play heavyweight entry/avoiding its champion.

‘I didn’t mentions PED (performance-enhancing drugs) results on multiple entrants, even though that makes me the clear current No.1 MMA GOAT, along with still being active.

‘Although it shames, as well as puts all runs and finishes in complete doubt, I’ve snored multiple juice heads. A true GOAT must do it all.

‘Long list of jaw dropping finishes. Myself/Anderson have the most exciting/important finishes in the sport!

‘And I’m only warming up. One more on George/Jon decision that will clear why I originally gave George 3 and Jon 4 before a maybe tied 3.

‘A lot of Jons opponents were Anderson’s 185lb opponents but the array of stoppages where not there, or nowhere near Anderson’s despite the weight advantage to do so.’
