MMA fighter nicknamed ‘The Beast’ accidentally punched hot ring girl in the face

Offbeat news from the world of sport

MMA fighter Andrew Whitney accidentally punched a ring girl in the face following a narrow defeat in 2016.

Nicknamed 'The Beast', Whitney let frustration get the better of him in the moments after his Titan Fight Championship 42 bout against Farkhad Sharipov. The 37-year-old had won four fights in a row before coming up against Sharipov and would have been expecting to extend that run to five.

But after a closely contested five round contest, the fight went to the judges' scorecards – and things didn't go quite how Whitney would have liked. Standing expectantly with his hand in the air, Whitney clearly thought he had done enough to come out on top.

So when the MC announced that Sharipov was the winner, Whitney didn't react well. Unaware of who or what was around him, the American fighter lashed out, swinging a fist that connected with a ring girl standing behind him.

Whitney's punch caught the scantily-clad babe right in the face to the shock of those watching. Although the girl wasn't hurt and Whitney was quick to apologise for the accidental right hook, Titan FC still felt it necessary to issue a statement on the matter.

"Our ring card girl was attended to by the ringside doctor and official," Titan FC CEO Jeff Aronson said, as per the Daily Mail. She indicated she was fine and was more surprised by the punch than injured.

"Titan FC is broadcast around the world and we expect our athletes to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times. We have spoken with Andrew Whitney and his management and are taking appropriate actions to make sure this unforeseen incident is not repeated."

Whitney has fought seven times since the incident, winning two and losing five of those contests. His most recent bout came against Martin Bravo last September, resulting in a first round knockout defeat for the star.
