This week sees the staging of the second round of the Carabao Cup and the entrance of 12 Premier League sides not in European competition.\u00a0<\/p>\n
There are the familiar faces of the likes of Everton, Wolves and Crystal Palace, who are well accustomed to starting their cup campaign at this stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n
While Tottenham – and perhaps to a greater extent –\u00a0Chelsea, are paying the price for a disappointing season last time round.\u00a0<\/p>\n
With the first midweek action of the year, teams are in England’s top-flight are likely to heavily rotate their rosters, handing starts to exciting prospects and squad players.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ahead of the round getting underway on Tuesday night, Mail Sport<\/span> takes you through ten Premier League starlets you should keep your eye on over the next few days.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u00a0Bashir Humphreys (left) and\u00a0Mason Burstow (centre) will be hoping to follow fellow academy alum Levi Colwill (right) into the Chelsea first team<\/p>\n Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n Mason Burstow – Chelsea\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n We’ll start with the biggest side in the competition at this stage, the five-time winners who are likely to make wholesale changes to the team that beat Luton 3-0 on Friday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n Mauricio Pochettino’s team could come close to filling a list all on their own, but we’ll stick to two players, the first of which is 20-year-old forward Mason Burstow.\u00a0<\/p>\n The youngster joined from League One side Charlton, where he scored two league goals in 16 games during the 2021-22 season. However, it was his starring role in the Blues’ development outfit last term that got many excited at Cobham.<\/p>\n Burstow took the form that saw him record 14 goal contributions in 25 games into pre-season, where he netted the equaliser against Borussia Dortmund in\u00a0Chicago.<\/p>\n The 6ft 2ins striker has already featured in two of Chelsea’s three Premier League games this term.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Mason Burstow joined from League One side Charlton, where he scored twice in 16 games<\/p>\n Bashir Humphreys –\u00a0 Chelsea<\/span><\/p>\n Chelsea will likely dominate possession against League One Wimbledon on Wednesday night with ball-playing defender\u00a0Bashir Humphreys likely to be involved in a lot of the play.\u00a0<\/p>\n The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at German second tier side\u00a0Paderborn, making 12 appearances as the side finished sixth.\u00a0<\/p>\n Before injury halted his progress up the Chelsea youth ranks,\u00a0Humphreys was a permanent fixture and recovered well to impress former manager Graham Potter enough to be drafted into multiple training sessions with the senior team.\u00a0<\/p>\n The 2023<\/p>\n \u00a0Andrey Santos – Nottingham Forest\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n Technically, Santos is the third Chelsea player on this list, but his loan move to Nottingham Forest means he’ll be turning out for Steve Cooper’s side this term.\u00a0<\/p>\n Chelsea signed Andrey Santos from Vasco da Gama in January but he has had to wait in the wings back in Brazil while he sorted out a work permit.<\/p>\n The 19-year-old is a versatile midfielder with a great engine and he will likely get a chance to showcase his talents in the east Midlands this season.\u00a0<\/p>\n Santos made 49 appearances for Vasco da Gama, and his performances were enough to see him receive his first senior cap for Brazil back in March.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Nottingham Forest fans can look forward to seeing the 19-year-old Andrey Santos in red this season<\/p>\n \u00a0Jesurun Rak-Sakyi – Crystal Palace<\/span><\/p>\n Another youngster with connections to the Blues,\u00a0Rak-Sakyi made the switch from west London to south when he joined Palace in 2019, and quickly established himself in the youth set-up at the club.\u00a0<\/p>\n The forward models his game after Eagles star\u00a0Eberechi Eze and got his first minutes of the season for the senior squad against Arsenal this month.\u00a0<\/p>\n Noted by his manager for his composure,\u00a0Rak-Sakyi scored 15 goals and registered ten assists on-loan at Charlton last season and scooped the club’s\u00a0Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘I\u2019m very pleased with him, very pleased for him and we believe at Crystal Palace that he has a big future and will get better and better.’ Palace boss Roy Hodgson said of the 20-year-old.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 20-year-old Jesurun Rak-Sakyi models his game after Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze<\/p>\n Ashley Phillips – Tottenham\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Tottenham completed a reported \u00a32million signing of the highly-rated 18-year-old from Blackburn earlier this month.\u00a0<\/p>\n The defender penned a five-year contract after\u00a0a breakout campaign for Rovers last term in the Championship, featuring eight times with a further six appearances across all competitions.<\/p>\n Phillips\u00a0has also made several appearances for England across various junior levels over the past two years.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Spurs completed a reported \u00a32million signing of Ashley Phillips from Blackburn this month<\/p>\n Alejo Veliz – Tottenham\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n From one Spurs summer signing to another,\u00a0Veliz arrived for\u00a0around \u00a312m from Argentinian side\u00a0Rosario Central on a five-year contract.\u00a0<\/p>\n The striker bagged\u00a011 goals in 23 outings this season after breaking into the first team in 2021.\u00a0<\/p>\n Ange Postecoglou’s side face Premier League rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage on Tuesday and their pair of promising summer additions are sure to catch the eye of Spurs fans and rivals alike.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Londoners also snapped up exciting Argentinian forward\u00a0Alejo Veliz from\u00a0Rosario Central<\/p>\n Luke Harris – Fulham<\/span><\/p>\n Welsh midfielder Luke Harris is yet to feature in the Premier League this term but looks to have a great future in the division ahead of him.<\/p>\n Harris has scored 25 goals and provided five assists in 35 appearances for the U21s.<\/p>\n He has already been called up to Wales’ senior squad and made his top-flight debut last October – making a further two appearances since.<\/p>\n The 18-year-old secured a new contract until 2026 earlier this year and could yet\u00a0could enjoy a break through season if given the chance by Marco Silva – who has tipped him to become a top player.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Luke Harris\u00a0made his top-flight debut and turned out for the side during pre-season under then-manager Julen\u00a0Lopetegui.\u00a0<\/p>\n The 18-year-old bounced between midfield and attacking roles before getting settled in the frontline, though he is adept at playing in a number of positions.\u00a0<\/p>\n A technically gifted player, Farmer had 11 goal contributions in 18 Premier League 2 games last season and is in prime Youssef Chermiti – Everton<\/span><\/p>\n Everton are putting a lot of pressure on the shoulders of 19-year-old striker\u00a0Youssef Chermiti, who joined for \u00a315m from Sporting Lisbon this month.\u00a0<\/p>\n The youngster put pen to paper on a four-year deal that had Toffees boss Sean Dyche hailing his ‘raw talent and\u00a0ingredients to be a very good player’.\u00a0<\/p>\n Chermiti scored three goals in the Portuguese top-flight last term and got his first run out for his new club during the weekend defeat to Wolves.\u00a0It is hoped Chermiti will inject attacking potency into Everton’s attack.\u00a0<\/p>\n The travelling Everton support are likely to get their glimpse of that on Wednesday night against Doncaster.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 19-year-old\u00a0Youssef Chermiti start for the Bees since joining in 2022.
