Manchester United have finally made their move for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat as Erik ten Hag scrambles for reinforcements before Friday’s deadline, according to reports. But FFP restrictions mean the 27-year-old’s Old Trafford switch wouldn’t initially be on a permanent basis.

United’s early-season midfield issues have intensified the demand for a second addition in Ten Hag’s engine room after Mason Mount’s £60million arrival from Chelsea.

And injuries to Kobbie Mainoo and Mount have left the Dutchman thin on options while Premier League rivals continue to bolster their ranks.

But United look set to act in a move for Amrabat, who could be one of three new acquisitions through the door at Old Trafford this week.

According to The Athletic, United are working on a deal for the Fiorentina midfielder before the summer transfer window slams shut at 11pm on Friday.

However, a permanent deal is considered unlikely due to the Red Devils’ current Financial Fair Play restrictions, so a loan is being prioritised.

The report claims United have identified several targets for defensive midfield competition, including Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch.
