Arsenal fans have demanded the “plastic” supporters who left the stadium early against Manchester United be “banned”.

The Emirates Stadium staged another classic Premier League game on Sunday. Arsenal and rivals United fought it out in a gripping fixture, with the match on a knife-edge as it approached the latter stages.

Marcus Rashford and Martin Odegaard’s first half strikes had cancelled each other out. At one stage, it appeared United’s Alejandro Garnacho scored the winner in the 89th minute, before it was narrowly ruled out for offside.

A few supporters in the 60,000 seater stadium decided to leave early at that point – despite several more minutes of stoppage time still left to be played.

But the fans in question would quickly grow to regret their decision as they missed the best moment of the season yet in the form of a stoppage time winner from Declan Rice, followed by a 101st minute Gabriel Jesus finish to make it 3-1.

The fans inside the stadium were thrown into a frenzy of limbs and carnage following both late goals. And others couldn’t believe that a small minority missed the sensational scenes just to get home early.

One Twitter user wrote: “Can’t understand leaving any game at 1-1 with all the extra time we have especially.”

Another fumed: “Very poor from those fans, unfortunately it happens at every single club in England.”

A third added: “In a season where it's almost impossible for Arsenal fans (Red member myself) to even buy a ticket, this is just outrageous.”

A fourth tweeted: “They don’t deserve to witness that scene at the end.”

Arsenal over the past year have given fans plenty of reason to stick around and see matches through. Mikel Arteta’s men have made a habit of emphatic comeback wins.

One of those came in the 4-2 win at Villa Park, where they came back from a goal down twice, before scoring two stoppage time goals. And last season’s 3-2 win over Bournemouth was the most memorable thanks to Reiss Nelson scoring a 97th minute wonder-goal.
