Saudi Arabia officials are reportedly pushing against Al Ittihad making another bid for Mohamed Salah to try and ‘protect their relationship with Liverpool’ having held productive talks with Mike Gordon. Salah has emerged as the No 1 priority for the Middle East with Al Ittihad fronting the bidding process.

Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Fabinho have already made the switch to Al Ittihad this summer. But the Saudi club are owned by the country’s Public Investment Fund, which also controls Al Nassr, Al Hilal and Al Ahli.

That opens up the prospect of another Saudi club going in for Salah in the future if the owners feel he’s a better fit elsewhere. For now, it looks as though Liverpool will be able to keep Salah from heading to the Gulf state.

The Saudi Pro League transfer window closes at 10pm on Thursday and transfer expert Ben Jacobs indicates no more bids will be made. That’s despite Al Ittihad’s desire to keep pushing to sign Salah, suggesting there’s some disagreement behind the scenes of the Saudi delegation who have been in London over the past few weeks.

It’s reported that talks between the Saudi delegation and FSG president Mike Gordon took place regarding a move for Salah. Liverpool have maintained their stance of not wanting to sell Salah this summer while the winger has reportedly not pushed for a move away either.

Jurgen Klopp had already stated that Salah would not be sold on repeated occasions over the past few weeks. Speaking after Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa, with Salah getting on the scoresheet, Klopp reaffirmed his stance with confidence.

Rather than let him go now at the start of a new season with no chance of actually bringing someone in right away.” Carragher added: “Liverpool would have Salah this season and give him a great opportunity for success and then Liverpool would have 12 months of thinking maybe someone, if there’s somebody out there who could possibly replace him.”
