Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq are reportedly set to launch an eleventh-hour bid to bring Jadon Sancho to the Middle East on loan. Steven Gerrard’s team hope to tempt him to Saudi shores after an explosive falling out with Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag.

According to CBS, Al-Ettifaq would be open to including an option to buy in the proposal but given that the Saudi transfer window closes in less than 12 hours, it is understood to be more likely that they will look to secure a straight loan deal. Sancho’s stance on the move hasn’t been disclosed as of yet but a fresh start away from Old Trafford may be particularly appealing after his recent spat with Ten Hag.

Sancho was left out of Ten Hag’s squad ahead of the Red Devils’ Premier League tie against Arsenal last weekend. When quizzed on the Englishman’s exclusion, the Dutchman revealed it was due to his poor performance in training.

“We didn’t select him based on training performance,” he said. “You have to reach the level every day at Manchester United. That’s why in this game he wasn’t selected.

Not taking too kindly to his manager publically criticising him, Sancho fired back with a social post, broadcasted to his millions of followers two hours after the final whistle had been blown. “Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that are completely untrue,” he wrote.

“I have conducted myself in training very well this week. I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!

I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and grateful to do so which I know every week is a challenge. I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!”

Sancho has not started for Man Utd so far this season and has only accumulated 77 minutes of game time across three substitute appearances during the 2023/2024 Premier League campaign. Given Ten Hag’s no-nonsense style of man management – as seen when he axed Cristiano Ronaldo from the Red Devils squad due to “attitude problems” in 2022 – it is likely Sancho will face some form of punishment for his outspokenness. Perhaps that will mean being loaned out for the remainder of the season.
