WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has revealed that he wants to fight current UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones after his bout against Francis Ngannou. The Gypsy King shut down reports of wanting to become the undisputed heavyweight champion in favor of another fight outside of the traditional boxing route.

Fury and Ngannou are set to lock horns in Saudi Arabia on Oct. 28 after the Gypsy King called out his opponent via social media. The bout will not go against either fighter’s record but will still be contested under official boxing rules.

Despite being just weeks away from the fight, Fury has already revealed plans for his next opponent, who also hails from the UFC. The current UFC heavyweight champion appears to be next on Fury’s list based on his comments on Fight Hub TV.

“I’d like to fight Jon Jones next,” Fury said directly.

The boxer also admitted to wanting Jones as his next opponent while talking to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith on “First Take.” “When I get this fight done I’m looking to fight big, big stars,” Fury admitted. “Next on the list is Jon Jones, I’m going to kick his a**!”

It comes as no surprise that Fury has set his sights on fighting Jones following Ngannou after the current UFC star was involved in Fury’s initial call-out. In the video Fury posted onto Instagram back in June, he said: “Here’s a thought, how about this.

“How about I fight Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou on the same night? How about that? That’s how much I value them two bums. Get up! Let’s go boys.”

More info

Fury’s comments on wanting to fight Jones next will come as a blow to any challengers wanting to take his WBC heavyweight title belt. The main challenge would come from Oleksandr Usyk who is vying for the undisputed title with the Ring Heavyweight, IBF World Heavyweight, WBO World Heavyweight and WBA Super World Heavyweight championships belonging to him.

However, when asked about wanting to become the undisputed heavyweight champion, Fury claimed that it has never been his aim. “Has it ever been my priority [to be undisputed champion]?” Fury said. “Have I ever said I wanted undisputed? It’s always been some other b****** dream hasn’t it?

“Undisputed, road to undisputed. Listen, I got Francis Ngannou to deal with and should the other little sausage (Usyk) want to fight for the undisputed then if he takes a small percentage we might make it happen. But if he wants a large bag then I’m going to say: ‘No thank you.'”
