{"id":290728,"date":"2023-09-12T16:34:45","date_gmt":"2023-09-12T16:34:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/allmysportsnews.com\/?p=290728"},"modified":"2023-09-12T16:34:45","modified_gmt":"2023-09-12T16:34:45","slug":"tom-curry-given-a-two-match-ban-for-his-high-tackle-against-argentina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allmysportsnews.com\/rugby-union\/tom-curry-given-a-two-match-ban-for-his-high-tackle-against-argentina\/","title":{"rendered":"Tom Curry given a two-match ban for his high tackle against Argentina"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>England flanker Tom Curry is given a two-match ban for his sending-off against Argentina &#8211; with the suspension reduced down from SIX weeks because of his good character<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>England flanker Tom Curry was sent off for a high tackle on Juan Cruz Mallia<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The suspension was reduced from six weeks because of his good character<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Boss Steve Borthwick will now be without the star against both Japan and Chile\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>England flanker Tom Curry has been banned for two matches after being sent off in the World Cup opener against Argentina.<\/p>\n<p>Curry will miss the Pool D games against Japan and Chile following his sending off for a head-on-head collision with full-back Juan Cruz Mall\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>The offence carries a six-week suspension but it was reduced to three because of Curry\u2019s good character, before having another week cut off for attending tackle school.<\/p>\n<p>He is expected to complete the course with England\u2019s defence coach Kevin Sinfield.<\/p>\n<p>It is a big blow to Steve Borthwick\u2019s plans, having been without the forward for the entire summer warm-up series due to injury.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/12\/16\/75341635-0-image-a-1_1694533677400.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>England flanker Tom Curry has been handed a two-match ban for his head-on-head high tackle<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/12\/16\/75342285-12509711-image-a-17_1694534364941.jpg\" height=\"448\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Curry, pictured in the sin bin on Saturday evening, was initially handed a yellow card in the third minute before officials reviewed the incident and upgraded the decision to a red card<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/12\/17\/75342437-12509711-image-m-21_1694534579533.jpg\" height=\"414\" width=\"306\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/12\/17\/75342441-12509711-image-a-22_1694534585870.jpg\" height=\"414\" width=\"306\"><\/p>\n<p>The 25-year-old star (left, colliding with Juan Cruz Mallia) will not play against Japan or Chile<\/p>\n<p>Curry is the third England player to be suspended in recent weeks, following sending offs for captain Owen Farrell and No 8 Billy Vunipola.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the No 8s potential return against Japan on Sunday, assistant coach Richard Wigglesworth said: \u2018Billy has got great physical presence and it&#8217;s great to have him back on the training field.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;But he&#8217;s a really smart as well, he puts himself in great positions, he&#8217;s got great hands.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;He&#8217;s got more threat than just being a big ball carrier. He&#8217;s really smart and knows when to shift it and change the point of contact for other players as well.
