Arsenal star Leandro Trossard channelled his inner Alexis Sanchez to remind Mikel Arteta why he needs to feature more prominently for the Gunners. The winger scored a sensational solo goal for Belgium in their 5-0 win over Estonia on Tuesday.

Trossard started for the Red Devils despite a lack of game time at Arsenal this season. He repaid the faith of head coach Domenico Tedesco by putting his side 2-0 in the 18th minute after former Tottenham man Jan Vertonghen scored the opening goal.

The 28-year-old collected the ball from Romelu Lukaku on the edge of the box and glided over two desperate sliding challenges. He made his way to the right-hand side of the penalty area.

Closed down by two Estonian defenders, Trossard took aim with a thumping strike across the goalkeeper. The ball nestled in the top corner.

The former Brighton attacker might have been disappointed not to play as much since his January transfer from the Seagulls.

He assisted seven and scored once in his first 11 matches for Arsenal – including a hat-trick of assists in a 3-0 win over Fulham in March. However, Gabriel Martinelli has been Arteta’s first-choice left winger for much of the last couple of seasons.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. The Spaniard said: “We knew about his quality and what he could bring to the team. We are really pleased with him. He can play right, left, he can play as an attacking midfielder, as a nine, false nine.

“He’s really contributing to the team. He really takes a lot of responsibility in games to make things happen – and we love that.”

But Trossard has scarcely seen much action since. He has played just 77 minutes of football across three appearances, although did come off the bench to score in the Community Shield victory over Manchester City.
