Harry Kane hopes Bayern Munich can pile more misery on Manchester United and get their Champions League campaign off to a winning start at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.

United have suffered three defeats in their opening five Premier League games, and been distracted by off-the-field issues involving Mason Greenwood, Antony and Jadon Sancho.

Kane, who could have moved to Old Trafford before signing for Bayern in a £100million deal this summer, warned his new teammates earlier this week that they could face a United backlash.

However, on the eve of the Group A opener in Bavaria, the England captain acknowledged United’s difficult start and admitted that it’s something Bayern can exploit.

‘I don’t know about the perfect time, there can be a big response from teams going through a difficult spell, but we need to use circumstances to our advantage,’ said Kane.

‘We know we have to go with a big confidence. We are at home. It is important to start the game on the front foot and really put the pressure on the opposition. They have some big threats as well, quick on the counter-attack.’

Kane has continued his excellent strike rate with Tottenham and England by scoring four goals in his first five games for Bayern.

He added: ‘It’s been a good start for me here. Whenever there is a big transfer, there is more pressure and expectation to see how you start. I’m really pleased to score the four goals and I think personally I can play better.

‘Before I came here I knew how big Bayern Munich were. I’m really enjoying the new surroundings and the new feelings.

Manchester United players are facing a confidence crisis after a torrid start to the new season

‘I’ve been back and forth with the internationals and the birth of my fourth child. Over the season, I will get to know more about the club.’

On linking up with former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel at Bayern, Kane said: ‘We’ve got a good relationship. He is always pushing players to improve and get better. That is the same with me.

‘There is no special treatment because I am a new player or a big player. I can learn from a manager like him. He has managed some of the biggest clubs in the world and been successful.
