{"id":291793,"date":"2023-09-20T09:36:52","date_gmt":"2023-09-20T09:36:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/allmysportsnews.com\/?p=291793"},"modified":"2023-09-20T09:36:52","modified_gmt":"2023-09-20T09:36:52","slug":"solskjaer-reveals-484m-list-of-five-superstars-he-wanted-at-man-utd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allmysportsnews.com\/soccer\/solskjaer-reveals-484m-list-of-five-superstars-he-wanted-at-man-utd\/","title":{"rendered":"Solskjaer reveals \u00a3484m list of FIVE superstars he wanted at Man Utd"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>&#8216;We wanted Jude Bellingham&#8230; He sensibly chose Dortmund&#8217;: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals \u00a3484m list of FIVE superstars he tried to buy at Man United &#8211; including key man he was told he didn&#8217;t have budget for<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The former manager also shared that players&#8217; &#8216;egos&#8217; disrupted his spell at club\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Solskjaer was sacked after a dismal 4-1 defeat to Watford in November 2021\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Listen to the latest episode of Mail Sport&#8217;s podcast &#8216;It&#8217;s All Kicking Off!&#8217;\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>OIe Gunnar Solskjaer has shared the names of the five superstars he looked into buying whilst at the helm of Manchester United in a new interview with The Athletic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The United legend was originally named as an interim choice following the bitter dismal of Jose Mourinho in 2018, but after a string of impressive form, was appointed formally to the role of head coach four months later.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During his tenure &#8211; which ran out after an igniminious 4-1 to Watford in 2021 &#8211; the former Molde coach oversaw a number of arrivals at Old Trafford with some, such as Bruno Fernandes, making a lasting impact on the squad.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Others, like the star-crossed return of Cristiano Ronaldo, were arguably less successful.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But speaking in his first interview since his dismissal, Solskjaer was keen to share the ones that got away from him &#8211; and could have played a key role in reversing United&#8217;s fortunes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/20\/09\/75630711-12539291-image-a-9_1695198465663.jpg\" height=\"407\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed the difficulties he found as Man United manager signing top transfer targets<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/20\/09\/75630463-12539291-image-m-4_1695198368932.jpg\" height=\"396\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The Norwegian head coach brought in a number of new players during his tenure, such as Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/20\/09\/75630693-12539291-image-a-5_1695198380006.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Jude Bellingham was described by Solskjaer as a &#8216;United player&#8217; but instead chose Dortmund<\/p>\n<p><span>When asked about the whether the role of head coach at United was an impossible one, Solskjaer was realistic, calling the task &#8216;difficult&#8217;, and citing the financial restraints around bringing in new players.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Norwegian first named his compatriot, Erling Haaland at the top of his wishlist, who he eyed &#8216;before he made his Salzburg debut&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Declan Rice, who wouldn&#8217;t have cost what he did in the summer,&#8217; Solskjaer continued. &#8216;We discussed Moises Caicedo, but we felt we needed players ready for there and then. Brighton are very good at letting players come from abroad and find their feet for a year and a half. At United, you don&#8217;t have that luxury and that has cost the club loads of players.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We wanted Jude Bellingham badly &#8211; he&#8217;s a Man United player, but I respect he chose Dortmund. That was probably sensible.&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Instead, Haaland was snapped up by Borussia Dortmund, before being snagged by United&#8217;s crosstown rivals Manchester City in the summer of 2022 for what seems like an eye-poppingly inexpensive fee of \u00a351million.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>United mulled a move for Declan Rice during this summer&#8217;s transfer window, but the former West Ham captain had his heart set on featuring for Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta&#8217;s side breaking their transfer record for the \u00a3100m player.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The signing of Moises Caicedo &#8211; who was featuring for Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle when under consideration by the then-United coach &#8211; became one of the major stories of summer 2023 with his record-busting \u00a3115m transfer from Brighton to Chelsea.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The midfielder joined the west London club after a late bid from rivals Liverpool for \u00a3113m, which was snubbed by the player keen to turn out under Mauricio Pochettino.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Solskjaer added that under the circumstances, he respected players players he signed such as Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Dan James, and Jadon Sancho, singling them out as &#8216;young players prepared to come into a team that wasn&#8217;t 100 per cent there like it was when I arrived&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I would have signed (Harry) Kane every day of the week and my understanding was that he wanted to come,&#8217;
