Former Liverpool goalkeeper Kamil Grabara risked the wrath of Galatasaray fans after branding Istanbul a ‘s***hole’ following Copenhagen’s late collapse in the Turkish capital. Grabara was in between the sticks for the Danish side as they surrendered a two-goal lead, with Galatasaray turning the game on its head thanks to a couple of late strikes.

Copenhagen made the perfect start when Mohammed Elyounoussi broke the deadlock on 35 minutes before Diogo Goncalves doubled their advantage after the break. Things went downhill when Elias Jelert was sent off for the visitors with 17 minutes remaining, though, as Sacha Boey and Tete scored late on for Galatasaray to level proceedings.

The result saw Copenhagen denied a winning start to their Champions League group stage campaign, much to the frustration of Grabara. The 24-year-old, who spent five years at Liverpool between 2016 and 2021, took to social media to vent his anger as he posted: “Deserved all three points from that s*** hole, but that’s life, we move on.”

Grabara has since edited the caption to read ‘s*** game’ after receiving a backlash from hordes of angry Turkish supporters. He has also turned off the ability for users to comment on the Instagram post in question, which has been liked by nearly 30,000 people since it was shared on Wednesday night.

However, it remains to be seen if he will face the fury of travelling Galatasaray fans when it comes to the reverse fixture, which is due to be played in Copenhagen in December.

Grabara failed to make a senior appearance for Liverpool during his time at Anfield after joining the Reds academy from Polish side Ruch Chorzow. He managed to impress Steven Gerrard with his performances at under-18 level, though, before embarking on a couple of loan spells to cut his teeth in the senior game.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. The following season, he made 28 appearances in the Championship at Huddersfield Town before returning to Aarhus on loan a year later.

Grabara was then sold to Copenhagen in the summer of 2021 in exchange for a transfer fee in the region of £3million. He will join Bundesliga side Wolfsburg at the end of the current season, although there is an option for the move to be brought forward to January if all parties agree.

Want the latest Premier League news as we publish it on Express Sport?
