In an incredibly bizarre moment at the Solheim Cup, American golfer Lexi Thompson dismissively answered a reporter’s question about a crucial moment in her Friday afternoon four-ball match.

Thompson and her playing partner Lilia Vu were tied with Europe’s Leona Maguire and Georgia Hall going into the 18th hole.

On her third shot, Thompson attempted a chip onto the green – but shanked it. Maguire would chip in and won Europe’s first point of the day.

In a press conference following the match a reporter asked, ‘Could you talk about the third shot on 18? There was some question on what you were trying to do and what you actually did do on the third shot. Could you just go through it for us?’

Shockingly, Thompson replied, ‘I don’t need to comment on that.’

American Lexi Thompson gave a bizarre response when asked about a missed chip on Friday

She simply told the reporter ‘I don’t need to comment on the chip’ when asked politely

American captain Stacey Lewis was heard muttering that it was a ‘terrible question’

That has been Thompson’s lone error so far, having won early Friday and early Saturday

After the reporter said ‘excuse me’ in an attempt to clarify, Thompson ended up repeating herself saying in a slightly patronizing tone ‘I don’t need to comment on the chip’ before eventually giving more of an answer.

‘It was a bad lie and I didn’t hit a good chip, but it was pretty much impossible,’ she said.

The reporter thanked her for the answer, at which point American captain Stacy Lewis was heard muttering under her breath ‘That’s a terrible question’.

It was, in fact, not a terrible question. That moment proved to be the deciding factor in a competitive four-ball match which helped Europe climb back into the competition.

The Americans went 4-0 in their morning foursome play – with Thompson and playing partner Danielle Kang winning 2&1 among other results.

But Europe get back into the swing of things by halving two matches and winning two others – including the Thompson/Vu vs. Maguire Hall match.

By the time Saturday morning finished up, the Americans didn’t get any more of an advantage over Europe – with a 7-5 lead. Thompson was re-united with Kang and won their foursome over Maguire and Anna Nordqvist one-up.

Thompson, who is active on social media, did not address this press conference on either Twitter or Instagram.
