Manchester United will reportedly be at the front of the queue if Adrien Rabiot decides not to renew his contract with Juventus. The Frenchman is only under contract until the end of the season, and fears are growing in Turin that the Bianconeri could lose one of their star players without receiving a penny.

Rabiot’s contract situation means that he will be at liberty to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club in January. Juve therefore have no time to rest on their laurels, with the 28-year-old in high demand after making a sharp start to the season.

The Turin giants have spent the past 18 months trying to keep hold of Rabiot. United sporting director John Murtough held in-person transfer talks in the summer of 2022 over a move that never materialised, and the midfielder left Juve sweating before eventually signing a one-year extension back in June.

However, the short-term agreement means that the Italian side remain in a constant state of alert while top clubs circle. Transfermarkt value Rabiot at £35million, but he could move for free unless Juventus act quickly.

However, injuries have left him short this term and Casemiro has not displayed the kind of form that immediately endeared him to supporters following his move from Real Madrid.

Senior figures at Old Trafford may also look to shed extra weight from their squad when the transfer window reopens in January, with Donny van de Beek currently out in the cold. Ten Hag and co steadied the ship on Saturday night by notching a narrow win over Burnley.

Bruno Fernandes’ emphatic volley proved to be the difference between the sides as United drew a line under a torrid run of three consecutive defeats, moving them back into the top half of the Premier League.

Ten Hag must grapple with a packed schedule between now and the next international break, with United in Carabao Cup action on Tuesday and hosting Galatasaray in the Champions League the following week.
