Mail Sport revealed that it was hours away when a late hitch led to Jurgen Klopp signing Ryan Gravenberch instead.<\/p>\n<p>United\u2019s interest remained but the club had to shift players out before making their move for Amrabat after exhausting a tight budget with the \u00a3180million spent on Mount, Onana and Hojlund.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually the Amrabat deal went through on deadline day at the start of this month after United agreed to pay Fiorentina \u00a38.5million to loan the midfielder for the rest of the season with an option to buy him next summer for \u00a321.4m.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/27\/12\/75889197-0-image-a-2_1695814590818.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Sofyan Amrabat was made to wait for his debut after arriving at Man United with an injury<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/27\/12\/75889199-0-image-a-1_1695814588267.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The Moroccan made his first start on Tuesday evening in United&#8217;s 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Crystal Palace<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018After the last game with Fiorentina \u2013 the Europa Conference League final with West Ham \u2013 from that moment the window started for me,\u2019 says Amrabat who was a standout player in Morocco\u2019s fairytale run to the World Cup semi-finals in December.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018There were a lot of clubs, a lot of speaking, talking, but for me it was clear I wanted Manchester United.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It was long, long months for me, very difficult months. But in the end it was nice on the last day that I signed here, and that I\u2019m here is now the most important.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Amrabat arrived with an injury which forced him to pull out of the Morocco squad. More waiting. He could only watch from the sidelines as his new team suffered three defeats in a row at the hands of Arsenal, Brighton and Bayern Munich.<\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old\u2019s patience finally paid off when he made his debut as a late substitute at Burnley on Saturday before getting his first start and playing for an hour in Tuesday\u2019s Carabao Cup tie against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n<p>It may only be a coincidence that United won both games, but already Amrabat Is showing signs that he can every bit as important to Ten Hag as the club\u2019s three marquee signings.<\/p>\n<p>United needed a defensive midfield partner for Casemiro this summer and the move for Mount raised eyebrows in some quarters. The former Chelsea man is more effective in advanced areas of the pitch, as he showed again in the 3-0 win over Palace when he had a hand in the first two goals.<\/p>\n<p>Ten Hag started with a 4-1-4-1 formation with Casemiro screening the back-four on his own, having used Mount, Christian Eriksen, Scott McTominay and the promising Hannibal Mejbri in a pivot alongside the Brazilian so far this season, with varying degrees of success.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/27\/12\/75889193-0-image-a-3_1695814649674.jpg\" height=\"446\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Erik ten Hag started the match with a 4-1-4-1 formation with Amrabat starting at left-back<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/27\/12\/75889375-0-image-a-4_1695814806787.jpg\" height=\"461\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Amrabat popped up all across the pitch, deputising on the right and at left back on the night<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the man he describes as \u2018a warrior\u2019 who may well emerge to be the ideal midfield foil for Casemiro.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018When I step on the pitch, for me it\u2019s normal that you give everything, that you fight for every metre and give your all for the team,\u2019 said Amrabat when told of his manager\u2019s comment.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Of course, you can make technical mistakes, everyone can have a bad game. But the most important is you fight for the badge, for the club \u2013 that\u2019s the minimum you can do. The manager knows me very well, I know what he wants and I try to do that.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Casemiro is a fantastic player, maybe one of the best midfielders in his position, so it\u2019s nice to play next to him. But we have a lot of quality, a lot of good other midfielders.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Curiously, Amrabat\u2019s first start came at left-back against Palace. Ten Hag remembered that he could fill in there from their time together in Holland, and the player was happy to help out.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It was with the manager seven years ago at Utrecht,\u2019 Amrabat recalled. \u2018I was 19 or 20-years-old and he asked me to play there and I did it, so he knew I could play there.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018But, of course, I\u2019m a midfielder. I said before to him, I play where the team needs me. If it\u2019s left-back, it\u2019s left-back.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Amrabat popped up all over the pitch. At one point in the first half, he was on the right touchline while Mejbri filled in at left-back. After Mount was withdrawn at half-time, Amrabat moved into midfield to play alongside Casemiro and immediately looked at home until he came off in the 61st minute.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/27\/12\/75889419-0-image-a-5_1695814890136.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old admitted that he is not yet 100 per cent fit after carrying a slight injury<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/27\/12\/75889611-0-image-a-7_1695815216949.jpg\" height=\"440\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>He waited patiently over the summer for his move away from Fiorentina to materialise<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It was from the first second to the last minute, for me 60 minutes, amazing,\u2019 he added. \u2018It was Tuesday and the stadium was full, it\u2019s fantastic.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019m fit, but not 100 per cent yet. I didn\u2019t have a perfect pre-season because of the transfer, but I\u2019m working very hard now to get there. This game was good for me, the next step, and I hope to continue like this. I\u2019ll do everything to be 100 per cent as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I think we\u2019ve been a bit unlucky with injuries. For every team it\u2019s difficult if you have a lot of injuries. If not, he will have to wait again. His patience has already paid off at United, and he is not getting too far ahead of himself even though it\u2019s clear he would like to make the move permanent.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I don\u2019t think about that,\u2019 he said. \u2018For me, today, I am a Manchester United player. The only thing I can do is give everything that I have to do my best to try to help the team.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I hope we have a fantastic season.
