La Liga are looking to clamp down on fan behaviour toward Mason Greenwood after Athletic Club’s support became the second to chant for the Manchester United loanee to ‘die’ on Wednesday. Greenwood made his first Getafe start in the 2-2 draw at San Mames and faced a hostile reception following similar treatment against Osasuna.

The 21-year-old completed his first 90 minutes since returning to football after 18 months away against Athletic Club.

He registered the assist for Getafe’s first equaliser through Gaston Alvarez before Juanmi Latasa levelled the score again in the 83rd minute.

But La Liga has confirmed that its official match observer heard ‘Greenwood, die’ chants while he stood over free-kicks.

The former United No 11 was also whistled when his face appeared on the stadium screen and his name was read out before kick-off.

Athletic Club supporters also chanted ‘Getafe to Segunda’ in the closing stages, though that was more aimed at coach Jose Bordalas, who received a red card for an altercation with Inaki Williams.

La Liga will follow the same process as when Osasuna fans also chanted ‘Greenwood, die’ during their 3-2 defeat at Getafe – the forward’s debut – 10 days ago.
