Piers Morgan has taken aim at Team USA duo Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka for their foul-mouthed language during their thumping defeat at the hands of Ludvig Aberg and Viktor Hovland. The duo suffered a record 9&7 defeat on Day Two of the Ryder Cup as matters went from bad to worse for Zach Johnson’s team.

Team USA made a miserable start to Day 1, failing to win a single match and handing Team Europe a 6 1/2 – 1 1/2 lead. Johnson needed his team to bounce back this weekend to avoid being made a mockery of, though Scheffler and Koepka were unable to get Saturday off on the right foot.

The pair were thumped by Team Europe’s Aberg and Hovland, and the duo couldn’t contain their frustration as the match panned out – with Sky Sports being forced to apologise for their language on several occasions.

Morgan couldn’t resist mocking Scheffler and Koepka on Saturday, writing on X (Twitter): “Koepka and Scheffler have provoked more Sky Sports Golf apologies for their foul-mouthed cursing that they’ve won holes.”

However, Hovland was understandably in brighter spirits.

Speaking after the match, he said: “We were meeting two strong guys – number one in the world and five-time major champion. We tried to not give them anything. We played really solid and obviously didn’t meet a sharp Scottie and Brooks but we played some really nice golf today.”

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. He explained: “So far so good. I don’t think we could have done better. It’s nice to speak our own language, we understand each other.

“Same humour, same culture. He doesn’t miss a shot. It’s easy when I’m playing well and he’s playing well. We’re just feeding off of each other.”
