Arsenal and Manchester City supporters are facing the inconvenience of travel chaos as the two Premier League title contenders meet at the Emirates Stadium this weekend. The Gunners will host the reigning champions in what promises to be a mouthwatering clash, but fans will be hoping public transport does not scupper their pre-match plans.

Mikel Arteta’s side remain unbeaten after an impressive start to the season, having beaten Bournemouth 4-0 at the Vitality Stadium. Manchester City’s fans were somewhat less satisfied after a shock 2-1 defeat at Wolves – and now they face more delays on top of the three-hour train ride down to London from Manchester.

Services in north London are likely to be very busy, as Tottenham are hosting an NFL match a short distance away and at the same time as Arsenal’s clash with City, which kicks off at 4.30pm.

Spurs’ all-purpose arena will be the setting for the clash between the Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans in N17 as part of their lucrative, multi-year agreement with the American football franchise.

On Tuesday, TFL released a statement warning fans of severe disruption before and after the match due to the clash in scheduling.

It read: “There is an NFL game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and a football match at Emirates Stadium on the afternoon of Sunday 8 October. The combined attendance is expected to be around 120,000. We expect Victoria line services between Euston and Walthamstow Central to be exceptionally busy between 10am to 2.30pm and 4pm to 8pm as fans travel to and from the events.

“Finsbury Park, Highbury & Islington, Seven Sisters and Tottenham Hale stations will operate in ‘event’ mode. You may need to walk down fixed stairs to platforms or be directed via different entrances/exits than usual. Queueing systems will be in place to safely manage entries, particularly after the events.”

DON’T MISS

TFL have also advised those thinking of travelling by London Overground between Liverpool Street and White Hart Lane stations that they may experience queues and congestion.

“After 10am you should avoid changing between the Victoria line and London Overground Seven Sisters as restrictions will be in place. It will be easier to change to/from the Tube at Liverpool Street,” they added. A section of Tottenham High Road will be shut off and buses will therefore be diverted.

With supporters already facing a challenge to get home with the game estimated to finish at around 6.20pm, these delays are likely to be with frustration from matchgoing fans.

The Premier League usually arranges fixtures so that teams from the same city, Arsenal and Tottenham in this case, do not play each other – but their agreement with the NFL has made things tougher.

Get every single Sky Sports channel with Sky Stream, Netflix and Sky TV for £46 a month.

You can enjoy all the best Sky has to offer without needing a satellite connection.

Sky Sports also offers all live events from the Premier League and the F1 and more.

If you’re already with Sky, you can get the full Sky Sports experience for £22 a month.

You get all the channels you’ll ever need for £18 a month in time for all the top matches to take place in 2023.

If you need a brand new TV and want to watch the best sporting events around on it, Sky is offering a deal where you get Sky Glass, Sky Sports, Sky TV and Netflix for just £34 a month.
