Ed Sheeran was spotted pouring pints for Ipswich Town supporters ahead of their Championship match against Hull City. The music superstar, who is a loyal Blues fan and sponsors the club’s playing kits, was at Portman Road to watch Kieran McKenna’s side in action on Tuesday night.

Unsuspecting fans in the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand were greeted by Sheeran, who was seen pouring drinks behind the bar with a smile on his face. Images circulating on X, formerly Twitter, show the 32-year-old pulling a pint of beer in the concourse before kick-off at Portman Road.

Sheeran also made a surprise appearance on Ipswich’s in-house media channel, Town TV, alongside former Blues players Simon Milton and Darren Ambrose. The musician, whose new album Autumn Variations has just been released, was given his ‘promotion winners medal’ for 2022/23 by chief executive Mark Ashton while appearing on the pre-match show.

Ipswich’s playing shirts have been sponsored by Sheeran since 2021 and he often turns up in person at Portman Road to watch his beloved team in action. He is also listed as a squad member on the back of the club’s official matchday programmes, having been given the No 17 shirt for the last three seasons.

He will be delighted with how Ipswich have started the new Championship season, with the Tractor Boys currently flying high in the automatic promotion places.

He recently insisted that he is expecting the Blues to secure back-to-back promotions at the end of the campaign, having achieved a top-two finish in League One last time around. While answering questions from fans on Instagram last week, Sheeran was asked: “Are Ipswich going up?”

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. I reckon automatic promotion and Premier League football next year.”

Ipswich have managed to win seven of their first nine Championship games this season, with their only defeat coming at the hands of Leeds United back in August. They have made the best start as a newly-promoted side in the second tier in EFL history and will have high hopes of eventually returning to the Premier League for the first time since 2002.

Want the latest Premier League news as we publish it on Express Sport?
