Leah Williamson has been presented with her Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Prince William at Windsor Castle following England’s Euro 2022\u00a0final triumph.<\/p>\n
The Lionesses captain was named\u00a0in the King’s\u00a0<\/span>New Year’s Honours list at the end of 2022 alongside her fellow teammates\u00a0<\/span>Lucy Bronze, Beth Mead, and Ellen White.\u00a0<\/p>\n England beat Germany 2-1 in the final at Wembley, with Chloe Kelly’s goal in extra-time giving the nation their first major honour since the men’s side won the 1966 World Cup.<\/p>\n Williamson, who has won six major trophies with Arsenal,\u00a0was prevented from joining the Lionesses on their World Cup bid this summer after suffering a ruptured ACL in April.<\/p>\n The Milton Keynes-born midfielder says she wants to be like a ‘new signing’ when she plays again and is eyeing a January return to football.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Lionesses and Arsenal captain\u00a0Leah Williamson poses alongside her OBE at Windsor Castle today<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Prince of Wales awards Williamson the honour which recognises her services to association football<\/p>\n OBEs are awarded for a distinguished regional or county-wide role in any field, through achievement or service to the community.<\/p>\n White is England’s all-time leading goalscorer, while Bronze and Mead have been England’s standout players over the last two years.<\/p>\n Mead was also awarded BBC Sports Personality of the Year, becoming the first female footballer to win the award.\u00a0<\/p>\n Dutch head coach Sarina Wiegman was made an honorary Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the Foreign Office list.<\/p>\n
