    Manchester United are to extend Victor Lindelof\u2019s contract by a year – to stop him leaving on the cheap.<\/p>\n

    The 29-year-old defender has eight months left on his current deal. And the Old Trafford hierarchy have decided to trigger a clause to tie him down until June 2025. <\/p>\n

    The Reds reckon that will guarantee them getting a reasonable fee, in the region of \u00a315million, should Lindelof leave in either the January transfer window or next summer.<\/p>\n

    Italian clubs Juventus and AC Milan are interested in the central defender, who cost \u00a330m from Benfica in July 2017. Jose Mourinho was at the United helm when they signed the Swede.<\/p>\n

    Lindelof, with 61 international caps, has made well over 200 appearances in all competitions for United. That includes nine this term coming into the weekend.<\/p>\n

    His versatility at being able to operate across the back four makes him a valuable squad member for under fire boss Erik ten Hag. But despite being in favour at the moment amid a major defensive injury crisis, Lindelof is likely to return to the first-team fringes once everyone is fit and available.<\/p>\n

    Ten Hag's current injury crisis consists of loanee Sergio Reguilon being out of action. United will also be without left-backs Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw, as well as Lisandro Martinez, who is out with a long-term injury.<\/p>\n
