Brazil legend Cafu is reportedly set to sue former club Roma and Qatar Airways over an alleged violation of image rights.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Reports in Italy, as per Football Italia, have claimed the Brazilian is ready to take the airline and Roma – where he made 217 appearances between 1997 and 2003 – to court for \u00a310m in compensation.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A date for the final attempt at a conciliation has reportedly been set for November 17, and if no agreement is met, the two-time World Cup winner will take them to court.<\/p>\n
It’s claimed that the case dates back to 2019, when Cafu – one of the greatest right-backs of all time – agreed to take part in Roma’s testimonial as part of a new sponsorship with Qatar Airways.<\/p>\n
He went out to Warsaw where a safety video was filmed and quickly broadcast on television.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cafu is one of the club’s greatest ever players and was part of their title-winning team in 2001<\/p>\n

Qatar Airways were Roma’s shirt sponsors between 2018 and 2021 and Cafu is wanting around \u00a310m in damages after deciding to sue both companies (Chris Smalling pictured in 2020)<\/p>\n
Cafu is said to have asked his representatives, Vincenzo Aliotta, to find a payment agreement with Roma, which is said to have moved slowly and been delayed on multiple occasions.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Then in 2020, the Italian side were sold by then owner James Palotta to the Friedkin family – allegedly before an agreement with Cafu could be found.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The 53-year-old continued to wait and was reportedly reluctant to take legal action ‘due to his love of the club’.<\/p>\n
But he has now reportedly decided to take action, wanting around \u00a310m in damages ‘based off the 46-month period in which the commercial was broadcast and his usual sponsorship deals’.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Roma’s last Serie A title win came in the 2000-01 season where Cafu made 37 appearances in all competitions.<\/p>\n
He was part of a squad that also the likes of Gabriel Batistuta, Francesco Totti and Vincenzo Montella.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Cafu later joined AC Milan where he won another Serie A title, as well as the Champions League final by defeating Liverpool in 2007.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cafu was part of the Brazil squads that won the World Cup in both 1994 and 2002<\/p>\n
