Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group are reportedly looking to hire a new sporting director. The Premier League club has faced many changes in the front office over the past couple of years.

Michael Edwards left his role as sporting director and, in essence, the club’s transfer guru before the end of the 2021/22 Premier League season. Julian Ward was his replacement, but that change would only last a year.

Ward left Anfield at the end of last season, leaving Liverpool needing a new sporting director. It was decided Jorg Schmadtke would be hired on a short-term basis to look after the transfer business for the most recent summer window.

According to The Athletic, Schmadtke is now under contract until the end of the 2023/24 season after initially being handed a three-month deal in the summer. After that, though, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will continue with Schmadtke in his current role.

The report has also played down links with former RB Leipzig managing director Max Eberl, who was recently rumoured to be in contention to take up the job at Anfield next summer. However, the report has said there is no sign of Liverpool looking to hire Eberl as things stand.

All of this follows the news Liverpool acquired a minority investment from Dynasty Equity last month. On September 28, the Anfield club announced that the New York-based investment firm had become a minority investor in FSG.

While no exact figure was revealed, reports claimed that the total investment from Dynasty Equity was worth between $100million (£80,) and $200m (£160m). Despite the investment, there has been no operational change at the top of the club.
