Brooks Koepka has opened up on the lucrative contract he received after signing with LIV Golf last year. Koepka was one of the first of golf’s biggest stars to sign up for the Saudi-funded breakaway league in 2022.

Koepka, a five-time major champion, made the decision to leave the PGA Tour last year and join LIV Golf. He was not alone, with the likes of Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, and Sergio Garcia signing up for the league financed by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF).

It was announced on June 6 that details of a proposed merger between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and LIV Golf would take place. A deadline of Dec. 31 has been set for an agreement to be reached, but as things stand no resolution seems close.

Koepka made an appearance on the “BS w/ Jake Paul” podcast on Thursday, where he was asked for his motivations behind signing up for LIV Golf. The 33-year-old was also questioned about the money he has earned thanks to signing up for the league.

“It was big, it was good,” Koepka said when asked if he was well-paid after signing up for LIV Golf. When asked if he received an eight or nine-figure sum, Koepka replied: “It was nine. It was pretty good, I was pretty happy with it, I’ll put it that way.”

Koepka would then go on to explain the reasons why he decided to leave the PGA Tour in favor of playing for LIV Golf. He admitted that his motivations were mostly financial, and explained how ensuring his family is well supported was essential behind his decision.
