Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will be forced to make at least one change from the last-gasp 2-1 win against Brentford last time out against Sheffield United on Saturday night. But the Red Devils boss needs to consider two more to avoid a humiliating result to start the latest block of fixtures at Bramall Lane.

Ten Hag’s side must kick on after the October international break, having won and lost four of their opening eight Premier League games, leaving them in 10th.

The Dutchman is under increasing pressure, but a raft of returning players will help his cause and move him closer to fielding his strongest 11 – something he claims he hasn’t had the chance to do since his arrival.

Jonny Evans hasn’t really put a foot wrong with the surprise opportunities he’s received on the back of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez’s injury problems this season.

The Frenchman should be one of two changes from the makeshift defence that faced the Bees, partnering Harry Maguire.

The 30-year-old should keep his place and allow Victor Lindelof, who covered at left-back last time out, to drop to the bench.

Ten Hag claimed Lindelof was ready to feature after being caught up in the dreadful act of terrorism in Brussels over the international break – a testament to the Sweden star’s character.

But he should be the one to drop out based on recent form, with Sergio Reguilon’s return to training in the build-up a significant boost. Ten Hag has an actual left-back to choose from, at least.

Sergio Reguilon for Victor Lindelof
