Mauricio Pochettino previews Arsenal clash

Mikel Arteta doesn’t appear to be going anywhere anytime soon as he looks to create a legacy at Arsenal with the Gunners in the title mix yet again, following their near-miss last season. However, that hasn’t stopped him discussing the future of the club when he eventually departs.

Arteta has been keen to add familiar faces to the staff at London Colney, and one former player who returned under his watch was fan favourite Jack Wilshere, who was appointed the Arsenal Under 18s coach in July 2022.

The former midfielder, whose career was cut short by injuries, has excelled in his coaching position and has since been linked with an exit with Colorado Rapids keen on acquiring his services. It would be a blow to lose the Englishman but Arteta and co wouldn’t stand in his way.

And on Friday, Arteta was quizzed about Wilshere’s future amid exit links and he was keen to lead the plaudits of his former team-mate at the Emirates Stadium, before saying ‘I’m sure’ he could take over one day in north London.

During his press conference ahead of the London derby against fierce rivals Chelsea, Arteta told reporters: “First of all I am really happy that Jack is part of the setup. I think he has done really well, he has brought something that was very necessary in the academy and around the place.

“These things are going to happen when people are doing well – you are going to get attraction and then it will come down to him to make what he believes is the best decision for his career.”

Then when asked if he could potentially become Arsenal manager one day, the Spaniard replied: “Way down the line, you don’t know when that is. It can be very soon. He has got the potential to do it.
