{"id":294949,"date":"2023-10-21T17:28:47","date_gmt":"2023-10-21T17:28:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/allmysportsnews.com\/?p=294949"},"modified":"2023-10-21T17:28:47","modified_gmt":"2023-10-21T17:28:47","slug":"jos-buttler-insists-england-will-go-again-after-south-africa-defeat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allmysportsnews.com\/%d1%81ricket\/jos-buttler-insists-england-will-go-again-after-south-africa-defeat\/","title":{"rendered":"Jos Buttler insists England will &apos;go again&apos; after South Africa defeat"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Jos Buttler admits England batting first would have been &#8216;better decision&#8217; after his side were thrashed by South Africa&#8230; but the captain insists they will &#8216;sit down and go again&#8217; as their World Cup defence hangs in the balance<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>England fell to a dismal defeat at the World Cup against South Africa in Mumbai<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>Captain Jos Buttler reflected\u00a0after the game he shouldn&#8217;t have opted to bowl first<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>England next play Sri Lanka with retaining the World Cup increasingly unlikely<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jos Buttler admitted he got it wrong at the toss after South Africa\u2019s powerful batting unit pummelled 399 for seven on a chastening afternoon in Mumbai.<\/p>\n<p>It was the second World Cup game in row where England have misread conditions, after choosing to chase against Afghanistan in Delhi, where they lost a week ago.<\/p>\n<p>This time, Buttler\u2019s decision to bowl meant his team fielding in 36-degree heat and energy-draining humidity, and left the captain to reflect on a defeat that looks to have done irreparable damage to their title defence.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018You always reflect after games and question your decisions,\u2019 he said. \u2018Certainly, with hindsight, and with the physicality of that innings, batting first would have been a better decision. But it was decision I took at the time, and I still believe if we\u2019d been chasing 340 or 350, we\u2019d have done well in those conditions.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s a tough defeat to take. We were disappointed in Delhi, but we had a good few days and worked really hard to put it right. It leaves us in a tough position. There\u2019s no room for error from here on in. We\u2019ll sit down and go again &#8211; and that\u2019s all you can do in this situation.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/21\/17\/76839695-0-image-a-104_1697906175418.jpg\" height=\"454\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Jos Buttler admitted he made the wrong decision at the toss as England were pummeled by South Africa<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/21\/17\/76839663-0-image-a-105_1697906219698.jpg\" height=\"410\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>England were faced with the unenviable task of chasing the Proteas 399 in sweltering conditions in Mumbai<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/21\/17\/76839719-0-image-a-106_1697906334555.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>But Buttler insisted his side would dust themselves off and go again ahead of Thursday&#8217;s crunch clash with Sri Lanka<\/p>\n<p>Asked how he would go about trying to transform England\u2019s fortunes in a tournament that is in danger of running away from them, Buttler said: \u2018With complete honesty. It\u2019s obvious we\u2019re not performing to our best.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018My job as captain, along with the rest of the team, is to work out how we can get back to playing that brand of cricket, and play to our potential. It won\u2019t be everyone giving up. We\u2019ll dust ourselves down, puff our chests out and go again. You can\u2019t fault anyone\u2019s efforts and there\u2019s still belief in the dressing-room.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Buttler praised Heinrich Klaasen for his brutal 61-ball hundred, an innings Klaasen described as \u2018up there with my best ever\u2019. England were briefly unhappy that Klaasen had celebrated by roaring in close proximity to Mark Wood, with Buttler saying he didn\u2019t \u2018need to celebrate in Mark Wood\u2019s face\u2019.
