South Africa captain Siya Kolisi has paid tribute to England for upsetting the odds and reaching the Rugby World Cup semi-final. The Springboks came from behind to snatch a dramatic late win over Steve Borthwick’s side but Kolisi has given credit to the efforts of their opponents.

He told ITV: “It’s honestly, all the hard work that we’ve put in, has paid off. It was ugly today, it was really ugly, but that’s what champions are made of.

“I give all credit to England. They’ve worked hard, they were written off before the World Cup.

“Coach Steve and Owen and the team, they pulled themselves together and they showed who they are and they’re not a team that you can take lightly. So all credit to them for doing all the hard work and being in the semi-final today.

“And to me team as well, it was ugly today like it was last week, but we found a way. We found a way to fight back and get back into the game. So yeah, well done to the boys, really proud of the boys, especially the guys that came off the bench once again.”
