Barcelona have revealed their ambitious plans for renovations to the Nou Camp in a new computer-generated video on social media.

The Blaugrana have moved their base to the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium in Barcelona this term, with the iconic Nou Camp going under the knife for a predicted 18 months while work takes place.

However, despite its status in the game as one of the sport’s biggest and best venues, the facilities had been in urgent need of attention, after years of decay.

Yet the Catalan giants have hardly been idle as demolition work has already begun on gutting the ground down to the barebones in order to be rebuilt into a visually stunning arena.

The club posted a video on their social media account of the planned work, claiming that the end product would be ‘insane’.

Barcelona have released a computer-generated video of their reconstruction plans for the Nou Camp

Work has already begun on demolishing the existing Nou Camp with renovations expected to take 18 months

The upper-tier of the ground has already been torn down to make way for a new structure

The old Nou Camp had an upper-tier wrapped around only 50 per cent of the stadium, tapering off after reaching the halfway point of the shorter edges of the ovular ground.

In order to reconstruct a full tier, the seats and framework for this existing structure have already been removed, paving the way for a full stand stretching across the full circumference of the new ground.

The existing small roof on the opposite side of the ground will also be taken down, to allow for the massive upper section to be built, creating a bowl-like structure.

With the ground then looking like an ancient Roman Colosseum, a domed roof will be built on top with an aperture in the middle leaving approximately the centre third of the pitch open to the elements.

It is not the just the stadium itself, though, that is being revamped, with the grounds at the site also being done up.

The existing area will also make way, with a newer, modern concourse outside the ground wrapped around the perimeter in a complete remodelling of the entrance to the stadium.

The final product looks set to create a fearsome environment for visiting fans to the Nou Camp.

With the stands flaring outwards away from the ground before being capped with the new roof, the noise will surely be deafening, and a febrile and closely-packed atmosphere will likely be common-place.

There will also be extensive work done around the perimeter of the ovular stadium

An opening will be left in the inner circle of the new roof, with sections of the pitch left exposed to the elements
