Ex-Manchester United midfielder Paul Parker believes his old side should be "extremely satisfied" with a third place finish in their Champions League group.

Erik ten Hag's side welcome Danish outfit FC Copenhagen to Old Trafford on Tuesday night in what promises to be an emotional encounter in the wake of Sir Bobby Charlton's passing. Last time out in the Champions League, United were embarrassed by Turkish side Galatasaray, who beat Ten Hag and co. at Old Trafford 3-2 thanks to a late Mauro Icardi strike.

As a result of that defeat, coupled with their opening group game loss to Harry Kane and Bayern Munich, United currently sit bottom of Group A due to Copenhagen drawing their opener against Galatasaray. While there are still four games left, United have been left with an uphill battle to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

But should they finish third in their group, most likely behind Bayern and Galatasaray, then they will be playing Europa League football in 2024. And that is something Parker believes should leave the club "extremely satisfied" given the quality of teams they have faced in the Champions League group.

"I always remember FC Copenhagen from when they beat Manchester United," explained Parker, speaking to Danish outlet Tipsbladet.

"Given their last performances, even though they bottled it against Galatasaray, I think it will be a very, very tough game for Man United."

"I remember Galatasaray did beat Randers very narrowly and I was impressed by how a not that well known team could almost beat them and I'm sure FC Copenhagen would have won without the red card."
