Fans have mocked Manchester United after referee Marco Guida ended the first half of their match against FC Copenhagen early.

United took on the Danish outfit in a pretty much must-win Champions League clash after losing their first two group games against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.

However, during the game at Old Trafford, the Italian official ended the first half when just 44 mins and 43 seconds were on the clock, much to the bemusement of those watching on.

It came after a pretty uneventful first half with the break greeted by a smattering of boos from United supporters and fans were quick to use the early half time break as a chance to mock Erik ten Hag’s side.

One said: ‘The referee is that sick of watching United play that he didn’t even let us get to 45 minutes before blowing his whistle for half time.’

Others were quick to chime in on the early half time as one more fan said: ‘He had enough of the garbage lol,’ before another added: ‘He did us all a favour.’

Following the largely unprecedented move, particularly given the extra added time that has tended to be be played this season, a final supporter simply said: ‘The ref was bored.’

The game did come to life in the second half, with both sides creating several chances, although United began to dominate.

They missed several chances before Harry Maguire broke the deadlock to spark jubilant scenes at Old Trafford.

However, after squandering several opportunities to double their lead, Scott McTominay conceded a late penalty before Andre Onana pulled off a stunning save to secure a huge 1-0 victory.

It came on an emotional night for United, with the club in mourning following the tragic passing of Sir Bobby Charlton on Saturday.

Sir Bobby was honoured ahead of kick off, with United paying an emotional tribute to the legendary footballer.
